    Description

Beckwith Manufacturing Company (B.M. Co.) didn't have any direct contracts with the U.S. government during WWI but they did supply shoe makers with millions of box toes for use in military shoes and boots. B.M. Co. is also known for developing and manufacturing Bayonet Scabbard's
during WWII. This matchbook holder was given to employees who served during WWI it reads " WPT  To His Boys of B.M. Co. Who Served In The 1917 World War 1919 As A Token Of Regard And Remembrance "RB Inside a banner".  It measures approx. 2 1/4 inches tall x 1 1/2 inches wide. The back opens on hinges so you can insert a matchbook with the striker lined up to the opening in the back. Appears to be made of brass and has a eye screw and ring, I am unsure if this was original or added sometime later. I don't see any structural issues although it does have a a lot of patina. This piece most likely dates in the area of 1919-1922 as the company changed their name around around the same time from Beckwith Box Toe Company to
    Beckwith Manufacturing Company (B.M. Co.)
